Description

A joint event of the DKRZ user group and the natESM project will be held to share experiences in adapting to new conditions in HPC in general and using the new HLRE-4 system to address the research questions in particular.
This on-site meeting at DKRZ is filled with talks reflecting the diversity of climate models simulated at DKRZ and dealing with ML in climate research. However, there will also be explicit room for a lively exchange between users on the following topics:

  • How to make use of GPUs?
  • How can ML support ESM?
  • How to organize data in the modeling workflow?
  • Quo vadis climate modelling - capability vs capacity computing?

The first day will conclude with an evening poster session with the opportunity for the presentation of previous research results and further exchange on current and upcoming topics.

On the second day two parallel training courses with explicit hands-on are offered:

1. natESM:
The natESM Support Team offers trainings sessions for the ESM community. Three key points are: GPUs and how to port your code, introduction to profiling and tracing tools and an extensive hands-on session about profiling applications on Levante for possible natESM support requests in the on-going project.

2. Data Management:
The Data Management Training Session focuses on the services offered at DKRZ to make your life as climate scientists using DKRZ resources easier (in terms of data handling). Several topics will be addressed with a focus on hands-on experience: Introduction to Data Management Planning, Data Standardization, large-volume datasets hosted at DKRZ using catalogs, overview about WDCC and DOKU, DKRZ tape archive (StrongLink) and hands-on FREVA.

There will also be an opportunity for networking. Please let us know in advance if you would like to organize a side meeting for your community for room planning.

We ask for registration until 30 September - after that we cannot guarantee participation.
