In this talk, Daniel Heydebreck will introduce the new Hierarchal Storage Sytem (HSM) that manages the tape archive.

As announced as news in November 2020 and via Email on 28 January and 25 June 2021 [1,2,3], a new Hierarchal Storage System (HSM) will be put into operation at DKRZ. The new system, a StrongLink constellation, will replace the current HPSS. We expect the latter to go offline on on the evening of 16 July and StrongLink to go online on Monday 26 July. The new archival system will come with a new command line tool slk that replaces pftp. In this DKRZ TechTalk, we will present the relevant technical aspects of the new HSM system and give an introduction to slk which all of you can try out on a training system via mistral after the TechTalk.

The documentation [4] currently describes the latest version of the slk and nearly represents the functional scope of the release candidate. We will publish an updated version of the slk documentation in the week of the TechTalk.

If you have any questions regarding the use or technical structure of the new archival system which are not answered in the FAQ [5] or the documentation [4], please contact the DKRZ help desk via support@dkrz.de.

We are aware of the fact that the 6 July is located within the school holidays of some federal states. The TechTalk will be recorded so that you can watch it later.
